What is CDI?

 

 


Diocesan CDI Agreements

This is a three party agreement between a diocese (or other regional group), an authorized trainer/consultant and CDI Trainers. The authorization is limited to a diocese that has an agreement with the CDI Trainers for conducting a CDI.

The diocese agrees to:
Offer a CDI that is consistent with CDI Trainer standards. (See the web site
www.CDITrainers.org <http://www.CDITrainers.org> and talk with Bob Gallagher <mailto:odct@comcast.net>  206-300-3700 who works with dioceses and trainers in developing these agreements. These standards include the items below.
1. Use an approved format. The most common one is two cycles of four weekends each -- Friday 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 - 3:00 p.m.)
It’s also possible to do 1) two cycles of three weekend each -Thursday 7 p.m. through Saturday 4 p.m.; 2) two cycles of twenty weekday sessions and two overnights  - weekday sessions from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.; Weekend sessions, Friday 7 - 9:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; 3)
2. Use trainers that are certified to conduct a CDI and are members of CDI Trainers. Develop a fair compensation agreement with the trainer(s) that is approved by CDI Trainers. The trainer should take responsibility to send the proposed agreement to Bob Gallagher for approval.
3. Use approved program materials – manuals, readings, certificates.
5. Maintain a collaborative relationship with CDI Trainers
6. Pay a licensing fee of $2,000.00 for each cycle conducted. Fees will be paid before beginning the planning work of a cycle. Fees cover the cost of CDI Trainers administrative and marketing expenses.
CDI Trainers Agrees to:
1. Authorize the diocese to conduct a Church Development Institute (CDI) and use the CDI name and CDI program materials and designs.
2. If requested by the diocese or the lead trainer -- Assign a CDI Trainers trainer/consultant to coach the diocese and the CDI trainers in that diocese. Trainers that have never been the lead trainer before are expected to have such a coach. Talk with Bob Gallagher about assigning a coach.
a. Coaching will include up to two hours of phone consultation, before and during each Cycle, with diocesan leaders responsible for the CDI and/or congregational development in the diocese. This consultation may include providing suggestions on integrating CDI into the diocese’s strategy for congregational development, ways to recruit, etc.
b. Another four hours of phone consultation (per cycle) will be provided to the trainers in the diocese on design, training and professional development issues.
c. The coaching fee is paid by CDI Trainers to the coach.
d. The costs of phone, fax, mail etc. will be billed to the diocese. A separate agreement may be worked out between the trainer/consultant and the diocese if the diocese or CDI trainer requires additional consultation.
 
3. CDI trainers in the diocese will be informed of advanced training opportunities and materials related to the program.
 
4. The diocese will be invited to any "Diocesan Leadership Forums in Congregational Development" to explore with other diocesan leaders issues in congregational development. The diocese is invited to propose and work in partnership with a national center in sponsoring a leadership forum.
 
 
The Trainer Agrees To:
1. Offer a CDI that is consistent with CDI standards.
2. Use one of the approved formats.
3. Meets all standards for being certified as a CDI trainer/consultant (see below)
4. Work out with the diocese a fair compensation agreement (to be approved by CDI Trainers).
Trainer/consultants are certified by CDI Trainers based on the following criteria.
1. Completion of the CDI, and four weeks of workshops with LTI or NTL in human interaction, group development, design skills, consultation skills. or conflict management. Or equivalent programs accepted by CDI Trainers. Serve as a CDI intern trainer for at least a cycle.
2. Substantial experience and advance training. Maintains an active relationship with the fields of Organization Development and congregational development.
3. Conducts programs in a manner that meets all CDI Trainers criteria (e.g., regarding approach, spirituality, format, content, ethics, quality, hospitality, goals, evaluation, etc.).
4. Uses approved program materials - Including the manual, required readings, the exams, and using the four core frameworks as a central integrating tool throughout the program.
5. Actively participates in CDI Trainers -- a process of continuous improvement of training designs, trainer competence. Attends training of trainer programs and CDI trainer meetings, stay in contact with CDI Trainers collaborate with and be coached by the assigned CDI Trainers trainer/consultant, stay aware of new material for use in CDI, etc.
6. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the sponsoring diocese and CDI Trainers.
